Third Quarter is Miller Time as Tigers Topple North Shelby
Scotland County enjoyed a little Miller time on Wednesday night in the North Shelby Tournament. A one-point half-time lead turned into a commanding 15-point cushion in the third quarter of the consolation semifinals games versus the Raiders thanks in large part to point guard Drew Miller.
The junior connected on three, three pointers and scored 11 of his career-high 18 points during the key stretch that allowed SCR-I to advance to the consolation finals on Friday.
The two teams played an even first half. SCR-I led 10-9 after the first period. Brock Bondurant had half those points for the Tigers, as he was a perfect three for three at the free throw line.
SCR-I clung to that one point lead at the intermission before blowing the game open in the third period.
The Tigers outscored North Shelby 19-5 during the key stretch to lead 40-25. Andrew Mathes added five points in the third to help put the Raiders on the ropes.
Miller continued his hot shooting from behind the arc in the final period as the Tigers held off a late run by the Raiders to prevail 56-43.
The Tigers (5-7) were led in scoring by Miller with 18 points. Sabe Sears finished with 10 points and Mathes added eight points.
