NELLIE E. DULEY
(3/7/1919 - 12/20/2011)



Nellie E. (Snodgrass) Duley, 92, of Memphis, MO, passed away Tuesday December 20, 2011, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri. The daughter of George E. and Lillie Harbison Snodgrass, she was born March 7, 1919 in the western part of Scotland County, Missouri in a neighborhood known as the Middle Fabius. She was the youngest of six children and attended the Middle Fabius rural school. On Christmas Eve December 24, 1942 she married Don Clemons Duley and they celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage before he passed away April 15, 1999. To this union two children were born, Dorothy L. and Phillip N.

Others that preceded her in death were her parents, two brothers; Alpha and Victor Snodgrass along with two sisters; Elma Smith Sweeney and Freda Lay Cook.

She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Young of Burlington, IA, son Phillip Duley and wife Diane of Memphis, MO, nine grandchildren; Tracy (Len) Cloke, Marguerita (Randy) Warner, Crystal (Kenny) Adams, Amy (Jaryt) Hunziker, Leslie Duley, Laura (fiancť Marc Colvin) Duley, Andrew, Anna and Abbey Duley, and seven great-grandchildren, one sister; Lena Martin of Memphis, MO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nellie lived her entire life in Scotland County, Missouri, having worked in the dietary department of the Scotland County Memorial Hospital and as a cashier at J & S Foodliner later known as Gary's Super Value. In her free time she pieced and quilted many quilts all stitched by hand. She also liked to bake and cook for her family.

Memorials are suggested to Scotland County Care Center or the Residential Terrace and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Pastor David Howlett officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Cemetery east of Memphis.

Musicians were Tom and Teresa Cotton, vocalists and Joe Fulk, pianist

Pallbearers were Len Cloke, Kenny Adams, Randy Warner, Marc Colvin, Justin Ranney and Jaryt Hunziker. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Lay, Max Snodgrass and George Harbison.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
