CLAUDE EUGENE CROOK

Claude Eugene Crook, 90 of Downing, Missouri passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri where he had been a resident since July 2006.
The son of Grover Cleveland and Hazel (Calhoun) Crook, he was born on December 28, 1920 in rural Scotland County, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Nettie Elaine "Arkie" Steel on September 1, 1945 and to this union four children were born, Terry, Suzanne, Tim and Brenda.
Claude is survived by his four children, Terry Crook and wife, Sharon of Greentop, Missouri, Suzanne Anderson and husband, Dennis of Downing, Missouri, Tim Crook of Downing, Missouri and Brenda Buckallew and husband, Jeff of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Todd Anderson and wife, Arlene of Bondurant, Iowa, Elizabeth and Erik Buckallew of Omaha, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren, Rylie and Justin Anderson of Bondurant, Iowa; step-grandson, Brad Parsons of Edina, Missouri; two step-great-grandchildren, Hannah and Grant Parsons of Edina, Missouri; sister-in-law, Freda Crook of Memphis, Missouri; nieces and nephews and other family members.
His parents; his wife, "Arkie" Crook on May 3, 2006; three brothers, Robert Crook, Harry Crook and Wayne Crook in infancy and one sister, Amy Thomson, preceded Claude in death.
Claude was a very faithful member of the Downing Christian Church where he served as an Elder as long as his health permitted.
Claude received an honorable discharge with the United States Army where he served during World War II working on the Alcan Highway, now known as the Alaska Highway and later guarded prisoners in Arkansas. It was during this time that he met and married "Arkie". They were married for 61 years.
Claude and "Arkie" farmed north of Downing, Missouri most of their married life.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music was provided by Betty Anderson, organist. Special selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Beulah Land". Pallbearers were Jeff Buckallew, Erik Buckallew, Todd Anderson, Dennis Anderson, Danny Brush and Steve Swindler. Memorials have been established for Barker Cemetery. Burial was in the Barker Cemetery, northwest Scotland County, Missouri with military rites by the Scotland County VFW Post #4958. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
