RUTH SUSAN CALLAHAN

Ruth Susan Callahan, 99, of Memphis, Missouri passed away early Sunday morning, July 10, 2011 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.
The daughter of Bert Franklin and Retha Mae Morgan Summers, she was born January 7, 1912 in Davis County, Iowa.
She married Harry Callahan on September 17, 1929 in Wyaconda, Missouri. They started their life and family together on a farm southeast of Gorin and later moved to the house Ella Ewing lived in near Gorin. Then in 1939 the family purchased and moved to a farm southeast of Memphis where they raised both livestock and row crops and resided there until they retired and moved to Memphis in 1993.
A faithful member of the Arbela Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and was involved in most of the church activities. She was a well-known and respected neighbor in her community, always willing to give a helping hand and she was a loving mother and grandmother.
Ruth lived at home on South Adams until 1998. She then took up residency at the RCF and later the care center where she had lived for the last eleven years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, to whom she was married to for 67 years, her parents, three sisters and one half brother.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Howard of Citrus Heights, CA and her son, Jim Callahan and his wife Barbara of Godfrey, IL, six grandchildren; Kristina Gillstrom and her husband Paul of St. Louis, MO, Natalie Worthington and her husband Mike of San Anselmo, CA, Michael Callahan of Anchorage, AK, Coleen and Jana Howard of Sacramento, CA and Sherri Kelleher and her husband Dan of Vacaville, CA, seven great-grandchildren; Sean and Jennifer Kelleher, Kelsey, Samantha, Erik Gillstom, and Connor and James Worthington along with other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Payne Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Officiating the service was Rev. Robert Moseley and Rev. Ernest Deatrick. Interment followed in the Gorin Cemetery, Gorin, MO.
Pallbearers were Okie Boyer, David Mohr, Stanley Mohr, Larry Neuser, Darrel Kraus, Ronnie Gardner and Richard Stevenson.
Musicians were Arleta Dye and Schelle Cooley.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
