Burley Elmer Bertram, Jr., 85, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away June 6, 2011 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa.

He was born February 25, 1926 in Clark County, Missouri to Burley Elmer, Sr. and Inez Harris Bertram.

He attended school in Granger, Missouri and graduated from Keosauqua High School.

He married Lois Rochelle Tillerson in January, 1977, at Linn County, Missouri.

Burley farmed in Van Buren County, Iowa area and was an auctioneer. He served as executive director of the Mark Twain Regional Planning Commission and as a Comprehensive Health Director for northeast Missouri.

He was a social member of the Kahoka VFW and was a member of the Missouri Long Riders. He had a passion for horses and enjoyed frequent trail rides. He owned a carriage which he used to escort wedding couples.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Memphis, Missouri; a grandson, Tucker Ramsey, Columbia, Missouri and a great-grandson, Cole Bertram, Luray, Missouri and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Madeline Heath.

A sharing of memories service was held Friday, June 10, 2011, at 7 P.M. at the Memphis Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date in the Wyaconda Cemetery.
