Claris Kraus, 88, of rural Memphis, Missouri, passed away at her home on June 4, 2011.
She was born on April 24, 1923, at Luray, Missouri to George and Helen Theresa Glasscock Hopp.
She lived in Clark County, Missouri until she married Karl J. Kraus on May 22, 1943 in La Plata, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2004.
She attended Kahoka High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1943.
Claris was a member of the Arbela Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid. In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted her husband with milking cows. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and was an excellent seamstress. She received her most enjoyment when she could be with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons: Darrel L. Kraus and his wife, Kathryn, of Memphis, Missouri; Harlan K. Kraus and his wife, Connie, of Downing, Missouri and Ronnie G. Kraus of Memphis, Missouri; two daughters: Charlotte Sommer and her husband, Dan, of Old Monroe, Missouri and Vonda Harvey and her husband, James, of Magnolia, Texas; twelve grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, five sisters: Zola Miller, Beatrice Hopp, Estelle Herring, Norma Bogener, Cleatus Kraus and two brothers: George Hopp, Jr. and Cecil Hopp.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Homer Poor officiating. Burial will follow in the Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ronnie Boyer, Kenneth Dieterich, Joe Doubet, Donnie Harvey, Roger Lane Riebel and Tommy Riebel.
