George Leslie Combs, 94, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away March 15, 2011 at John Knox Village Care Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. in Kansas City. Private burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shepherd's Center, 5200 Oak, Kansas City, Missouri 64112.

Mr. Combs was born July 5, 1916 in Memphis, Missouri, son of Leslie Carl and Georgia J. (Connel) Combs. He graduated from Memphis, Missouri High School. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a Pharmacist Mate First Class. He participated in the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944 on a mine sweeper at Omaha Beach.

He attended the Piano Tech School in Chicago, IL. He had worked for the Jenkins Music Company, Kansas City as a piano technician and was also a self-employed piano tuner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Charles, Connel, Edward and Josef. Mr. Combs is survived by his nieces and nephews Laraine Morris of Overland Park, Kansas, Leslie Combs of Concord, New Hampshire, Richard Combs of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Julie Turley of Chicago, Illinois.
