KENNETH A. FISHBACK
(12/21/1935 - 2/12/2011)

Kenneth "Ken" Allen Fishback, 75, of Kahoka, Missouri died on a sunny Saturday at 1:30 p.m. February 12, 2011. Kenneth fought an over two year courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Kenny did make it home to spend time with his extended family which were all waiting for him at the family home in Kahoka.

Ken was born December 21, 1935 at home near the farming village of Derrahs, Missouri; he was the son of Edgar Earl and Mildred Faye Risk Fishback.

He married Wyneta May Jones on a cold January 15, 1960 in the Providence Baptist Church near Williamstown, Missouri. They met at the Coffee Shop a local 1950's hangout on the Square in Kahoka. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kristy M. Fishback of Kahoka, a son, Eric Fishback of Ankeny, Iowa, two grandsons, Wyatt and Nathan Fishback both of Ankeny, Iowa, two brothers, Earl Wayne Fishback and his wife Ester of Springfield, Illinois, and Thomas "Bud" Fishback and his wife Elaine of Canton, Missouri, a sister, Cherilyn Brookhart and her husband Jerry of Burlington, Iowa, and one brother-in-law, Wayne Jones of Kahoka, an aunt, Kathryn Ruth Risk of Lawrence, Kansas, and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, Cecil Jones, one sister-in-law, Norma Jones, two uncles, Lowell Risk and Hilburn Fishback and a cousin, Tommy Risk.

Ken attended Williamstown High School and graduated with the Class of 1953. In 1957, he attended U.S. Army Training Center in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and served with Company C 2nd Battalion.

He worked in Montana for a short time, returning to Missouri to pursue farming with his father. He continued to farm his entire life in Lewis County, doing part time carpentry work with his father-in-law in the earlier years.

Kenneth was a member of the Providence Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and song leader. Later after moving to Kahoka in 1960 he became a member of the Kahoka Baptist Church. Ken was a lifetime member of the Clark County Historical Society where he enjoyed working on the various war scrapbooks.

He enjoyed music, especially quartet music, which lead him to receive a scholarship to the University of Kansas. Kenneth was asked to sing at many weddings, funerals and special occasions. He also was an avid sports fan of all sorts, especially NASCAR. He loved to travel and spent many winters in Florida as a snowbird with Neta.

The highlights of his life were the many camping and hiking trips around Sailorville Lake to Fishback Point with his grandsons Wyatt and Nathan.

He had a love of animals especially his cat Oliver who calmed him during his illness. Ken had several caring nurses in Quincy and St. Louis, which gave him hope throughout his illness.

Kenney's motto was "Make sure you give a good fight and give it all you've got," "Never, never give up," "No should have's" and "Stay close to God!"

A Celebration of his life was held Sunday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Reverend Ernest Deatrick and Reverend Daryl Ridgely officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Clark County Historial Society or to the Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in St. Louis.
