New Food Pantry Building Nears Completion
Nearly two years ago a vision was shared at the Community Thanksgiving Service. The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance presented concept drawings for a facility that would provide space for a growing free food program. A challenge was presented to churches, community organizations and the community to raise the funds to build a new Food Pantry building.
On Sunday evening, November 20th, the Scotland County Ministerial Alliance will host the Annual Community Thanksgiving service. As in recent years, the service will be held at the Scotland County R-1 Elementary School Gym. The Alliance invited Terry Rush, Preacher at the Memorial Drive Church of Christ in Tulsa, OK. To come back as this year's speaker. Brother Rush spoke at the Thanksgiving service in 2009 to encourage the community in the endeavor to build the new Food Pantry. This year's Thanksgiving service will provide the opportunity for the community to join the Alliance in celebrating the completion of the new building!
The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance encourages community organizations to consider having "food drives" in preparation for the Thanksgiving service. People attending the Thanksgiving service are encouraged to bring generous donations as well. The Food Pantry has a room to fill for emergencies. Non-perishable foods as well as paper products and cleaning supplies are welcomed. Items in the "Emergency Room" are there to assist with needs between the monthly distribution days. If you or your organization have any questions about having a food drive or wants the Alliance to know your intentions to participate, please contact Dan Hite at 465-2060 or Jack Sumption at 465-7751.
