NMCAA Preparing Students to Head Back to School
by Hannah Kiddoo
Sharpen your pencils; back to school time is here! Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency (NMCAA) will be hosting its annual Back to School Fair Tuesday, August 9 in the North School Gym.
The event will include free school supplies and informational booths for families with youth in grades Kindergarten through 12.
It's a great time for students who have questions or are apprehensive about school to meet with people who will help them feel prepared. "The back to school fair is an opportunity for families to come and get important information related to school success," said Heather Rohn. "And they will get a bag of back to school supplies," she added enthusiastically.
While NMCAA hosts fairs in most of its represented counties, supplies handed out at the local fair are donated exclusively by sponsors in Scotland County. Rohn explained that with looming budget cuts, community support of the fair is greatly appreciated by NMCAA and the numerous students and families that anticipate it. "We support between 75 and 100 kids each year in Scotland County," she noted.
Informational booths will include representatives from both the elementary and high school along with community organizations such as 4-H, Girl Scouts, Scotland County Memorial Hospital, and the Missouri Department of Social Services.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance by visiting nmcaa.org and clicking on "Back to School Fair Enrollment Form" or by contacting Heather Rohn at (660) 665-9855 extension #27. Rohn is also looking for volunteers for the day of the fair; for more information, contact her at the same number.
