Mark Twain Chorale to Host Summer Concert in Memphis
The Mark Twain Chorale International is preparing for its eighth international tour and will be performing June 12 at 3:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Memphis. The concert is free and open to the public, and all music lovers are encouraged to attend.
The Chorale is made up of 19 singers from Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. The group performs primarily American music including early American hymn tune arrangements, spirituals, gospel, jazz, folk music and show tune arrangements as well as traditional choral arrangements. The group is under the musical direction of Dr. Dan O'Donnell and accompanists Dennis and Linda Richardson of Montgomery City.
The MTCI will be performing concerts in the England, Scotland, and Wales. Highlights of this tour will be performances at the Brecon Cathedral in Wales, Shrewsbury Cathedral and Hereford Cathedral in England, and Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. The group will also tour other cities and will perform locally in those areas.
Local singers from Memphis include Sheila Berkowitz, Trinity Davis, Jeff Dyer, Lynnette Dyer, Joan Hinds, and Jan Slayton. Singers from Kahoka include Wayne Blum, Chuck Braxton, Jeri Braxton, and Carol Trump. Singers from Knox County include Lisa Blake, Brent Karhoff, Jo Anne Layman, and Carolyn Morgret.
Other members of the chorale are Dale Findlay (Jefferson City), and Sharon O'Donnell (Oswego, IL), Vicki Robertson (Keosauqua, IA), Connie Sargent (Keokuk, IA) Shirley Lindell (IA).
Tiffany Trump-Humbert and Rolf Humbert of Trump Travel in Bentonville, Arkansas, are organizing the 2011 tour. MTCI's previous tours included Vienna, Austria in 1997, Salzburg, Austria in 1999, Italy in 2001, Ireland in 2003, Germany and Switzerland in 2005, Normandy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands in 2007, and Vienna, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary in 2009.
