Memphis Man Facing Felony Charge for Receiving Stolen Guns
A Memphis man was arrested March 1st on a charge of receiving stolen property stemming from a pair of firearms allegedly in his possession.
According to the Memphis Police Department, Kevin L. Holton, 39, has been charged with the class C felony of receiving stolen property.
The arrest was the result of an investigation originating in Keokuk County, IA. Officers from the Iowa county sheriff's department notified the MPD about the alleged sale of a 9mm rifle and a Hi-Point pistol reportedly stolen from a vehicle in Keokuk County before being transported to Memphis in September of 2010.
According to the probable cause statement, the two weapons were later sold to Holton with the knowledge they had been stolen.
Officers from the MPD and the Scotland County Sheriff's Department recovered one of the firearms at Holton's tire shop. The second gun allegedly had been destroyed and disposed of with other scrap metal.
Holton was taken to the Scotland County Jail and held on $10,000 bond before being released. He is scheduled to appear in the Scotland County Court at 9:00 a.m. on March 22nd.
