County Mourns Loss of Commissioner Deny Clatt
For the second time in less than a year, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will be called upon to appoint a county official to fill a void caused by an untimely death.
Eastern County Commissioner Deny Clatt passed away March 1 at the age of 51 after a brief illness.
As his fellow servants in county government morn his loss, the courthouse will continue to function with just two commissioners, Presiding Commissioner Chipper Harris and Western County Commissioner Paul Campbell. The county will not appoint an interim replacement.
Representatives of the governor's office are expected to contact the Democratic and Republican county committees to seek nominations for the position.
Governor Jay Nixon will consider these two official nominees as well as any other candidates that complete and submit the necessary application for the gubernatorial appointment. Those forms are available online at the website of the governor's office as well as in the county clerk's office.
The governor's appointment would fill the remainder of Clatt's unexpired term that will be subject to vote at the next general election in November of 2012.
On April 1, 2010 Governor Nixon appointed Jo Ann M. Peters as the treasurer for Scotland County to replace LaMayra Brown, who passed away February 21. Kathy Kiddoo was elected by Scotland County voters as Scotland County treasurer in November of 2010.
