Cancer Fund Benefit Tops $10,000 Mark

A crowd of over 120 gathered at the V.F.W. Saturday, March 5 to bid on items donated in support of the Scotland County Cancer Fund. Following a free-will ham and bean dinner, auctioneers David Jackson, Lamar High, Brock Meeks, and Eric Anders sold 176 items to raise money for the cause. A package of fireworks valued at $550 was raffled off at the door and went home with James Dale Baker.

At the end of the night, $10,041 was collected for the fund. Board member Margaret Curry remarked that she was pleased that the evening was a success and that donations had increased from the year before.

The Cancer benefit raised $9059 in 2010. The group distributed $12,000 last year to help 16 individuals with their fight against the many variations of the deadly disease.
