Payson Seymour Overpowers Tigers at Rumble on the River

About the only good thing anyone could say about Scotland County's draw at John Wood Community College's Rumble on The River, was that the Tigers played on Buffalo Wild Wings night. That's because SCR-I was pitted against Payson Seymour.

The Indians previously had dispatched Highland, Monroe City and Canton all by no less than 30 point margins and the Illinois school added the Tigers to that list with a 54-25 victory on December 20th in Quincy, IL.

The Tigers didn't appear in too big a hurry to get to the post game spread provided by the tourney sponsor however, coming out of the gates matching blows with Payson Seymour.

Kasey Dial opened the scoring for Scotland County with a three pointer. Sabe Sears quickly showed he could match athleticism with anything the much larger school had to offer, as he disrupted the fast-paced Indians offense with several steals leading to fast break opportunities for himself and his team.

SCR-I pulled ahead 10-7 behind scores from Brock Bondurant and Drew Miller.

But the Indians responded with an 8-0 run before Lee Tague closed out the first period with a driving score to make it 15-12 after eight minutes of play.

Payson put the game away in the second period. The Indians opened the quarter with a 15-2 run. The lone SCR-I points came on a bucket by Andrew Mathes. Dial scored on an offensive rebound to make it 30-16. Dakota Wells scored in the paint and Sears converted a fast break bucket to make the score 34-20 at the intermission.

Scotland County managed just five points in the second half as Payson Seymour went on to the 54-25 victory.

The Tigers dropped to 4-5 on the year. Dial finished with eight points to lead the scoring.

Payson Seymour (7-3) was led in scoring by Adam Hilgenbrink with 17 points. Matt Harris and Landon Epperson each added 10 points as the Indians won their sixth straight game after starting the year 1-3.
