Lone Senior Ensures SCR-I Survives to Play Another Day

Scotland County’s lone senior did everything in her power to extend her softball season at least one more game. Skyler Alderton blasted an RBI double off the fence in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Scotland County to a 1-0 victory over Canton in the opening round of the Class 1 District 11 Tourney held in Edina on October 6th.

Bethany Rader blanked Canton over seven innings to pick up the pitching victory.

Canton threatened in the top of the first when a runner reached on an error but was stranded at third base.

In the bottom of the frame, Elizabeth Duzan singled and appeared to slide in under the tag at home plate but was called out on a close play, robbing Alderton of an RBI on her first base hit of the night.

Rader allowed just one hit in the game, a one-out single in the top of the third inning.

SCR-I worked around a pair of errors, as Canton managed just four base runners off Rader, including one hit-by-pitch.

The Lady Tigers failed to take advantage of a leadoff walk to Courtney Jackson in the third, and an inning-opening single by Rader in the fourth.

Megan Creek continued the trend of good starts, leading off the sixth with a base hit. She moved to second on a sacrifice by Duzan and then stole third base.

Alderton brought the SCR-I fans to their feet as she blasted a ball off the right-center field wall for a double to score the go-ahead run.

Rader retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve the shutout. She struck out six and walked none in the one-hitter.

Alderton was 2-3 with the RBI double. Rader and Creek both were 1-3 and Duzan went 1-2 at the plate.
