SCR-I Picks Up First Softball Conference Win
A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and sent Scotland County to its first conference softball victory of the season on September 28th in Memphis.
Hailey Dial worked the base on balls to plate the winning run in the 3-2 victory over North Shelby. Elizabeth Duzan had led off the inning with a base hit. After Bethany Rader reached on an error, a single by Skyler Alderton loaded the bases with no outs. Ball four to Dial ended the contest.
The Lady Raiders had led for most of the night. North Shelby jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning as a lead off walk came back to haunt the Lady Tigers.
But Megan Creek settled in after that, allowing just one hit over the next four innings.
SCR-I took advantage of a pair of North Shelby errors to load the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning. Courtney Jackson delivered a key base hit to plate two runs and put SCR-I on top 2-1.
The Lady Raiders tied the game in the top of the sixth with an unearned run.
SCR-I threatened in the bottom of the frame when Shaye Wright led off with a base hit and advanced to third where she was ultimately stranded.
Creek pitched the complete game victory, allowing two runs, one earned on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
Duzan and Alderton both went 2-4 at the plate for the winning squad. Wright was 1-1 with a pair of walks and Jackson was 1-2 with two RBI.
The win evens Scotland County’s record on the year at 6-6 and makes the team 1-2 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
