Legion Baseball Team Has Short Stay in Capital City
By Brock Bondurant
The Memphis Legion team traveled to Westphalia, MO to play in Regional baseball action on July 16 and 17. Their stay in nearby Jefferson City did not last long as Memphis lost both games played.
The Post#219 team found base hits hard to come by in Westphalia. Memphis scored just one run in two games, getting their outings ended early in both. The lone run scored by Memphis on the two days, ironically enough, was the very first Memphis hitter to step to the plate. Sabe Sears led off the bottom of the first inning of the first game with a long, no-doubter home run over the Center Field fence. Memphis though, would lose that game 11-1 against Elsberry, and the next 15-0 versus Westphalia.
This ended Memphis’s season on a sour note, but Post#219 was confident in their improvement over the course of the season, and look to build on that improvement when it comes time for school ball.
Memphis American Legion Post#219 players include: Sabe Sears, Drew Miller, Harley Stone, Ben Shannan, Brock Bondurant, Cordie Kigar, Dakota Wells, Logan Payne, Cody Avery, Zach Miller, and Jordan Wheeler. Gary Miller and Les Richmond coached the Memphis team.
