J & J Ag Calcutta Tourney Draws 18 Teams to TRGC
A downpour just after the morning break sent teams scrambling for shelter, but the weather finally gave way to another successful outing at Timber Ridge Golf Course as the Memphis Country Club hosted the J & J Ag four-man calcutta golf tournament on Sunday.
A total of 18 teams took to the course the morning of July 11th. The squads of four players played nine holes before breaking for lunch to flight the teams for the afternoon calcutta round of 18 holes. An auction was performed by David Jackson Auction Service, raffling off the rights to the winning teams in the calcutta.
The teams were divided into three groups of six teams based on the morning round performance. The tournament score was based on the total 27-hole performance, while the calcutta finish only used the final 18 holes.
The team of Webber, Fromm, Drummond and Drummond won the championship flight tournament with a score of 79, which was 23 under par. That was one stroke better than the team of Diets, Stewart, Gilliland and Zoller, who shot an 80. Both teams finished the Calcutta 15 under par, and were forced to play a playoff to decide first and second place.
Corvin Drummond broke the tie on the third hole, sinking a birdie putt to give the Memphis team top honors in both events.
In the A flight, the team of Logsdon, Cockrell, Foust and Meldrum also shot a 15 under par in the final 18 holes to capture the calcutta first place prize. They won the tournament with a combined score of 83.
The team of Walker, Nelson, Sprague and Hobbs finished second with a score of 59 in the calcutta and an 87 overall in the tourney.
All six teams in the B flight shot a 31 in the opening round. The team of Miller, Dodds, Childress and Burman separated itself from the field with a 58 in the calcutta to win the event. The team of Dial, Porter, Kent and McKeever finished with a 59. They finished one, two in the tournament with combined scores of 89 and 90 respectively.
