SCR-I Track Team Advances to State in Three Events
The Scotland County track team punched its ticket to advance to the state meet next week with top four finishes in three of the four sectional contests at Centralia May 15th.
Rod Sears took third place in the 800-meter finals to earn the rigth to compete for a state title. The junior crossed the finish line in 2:06.82 behind Corey Schoene of Vienna and Eric Boeckman of Fatima. Joining them in Jefferson City will be Dax Dollens of Centralia.
Sears will also be running in the 4 x 400 meter relay in Jefferson City as the Tigers relay squad of Rod and Sabe Sears, Monte Sally and Zach Miller finished fourth at sectionals in a time of 3:39.26. The team from Fatima won the race in a time of 3:33.04 followed by Blair Oaks and Brookfield.
Loren Smith will represent the Lady Tigers after a top four finish in the shot put. Less than two inches separated second from fourth places. Kelsey Benoit won the event with a throw of 38í 07Ē. Lexie Wilt of South Shelby was second with a throw of 35í09.5Ē followed by Lauren Allen at 35í08.5Ē and Loren Smith at 35í08Ē.
Elizabeth Duzan finished eighth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 18.15 seconds. Taylor Dinyer of Hallsville won the race in 16.08 seconds. Kelsey Lauberth of Fatima, Amanda Yung of Salisbury and Katlyn Meier of Vienna qualified for state as the top four finishers.
The Missouri Class 1 and 2 state championship track meet will be held May 21 and 22 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
