Pepsi Team Claims Title at John Ed Luther Memorial Golf Tourney
John Ed Luther was an avid golfer, but even he may have been hard-pressed to try to get in nine holes in weather like that experienced locally on May 7th.
But despite cold, windy and wet conditions, golfers from across the tri-state area joined together to honor the memory of the Judge in the Scotland County Rotary Club’s annual John Ed Luther Memorial Golf Tournament at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Memphis.
Top honors in the 18-hole event went to the team sponsored by Pepsi. Chris Lister, Kyle Lister, Mike Frazier and Marcus Shalley finished 10-under par on the day. Second place in the championship flight went to the Craig Redmond for State Representative team. Third place was won by the Neill McKee for State Representative team.
The title in the A flight went to the Gas & More team of Gary Young, John Wilbrandt, Harry Ransford and Frank Ransford. Second place was a tie between the Memphis Democrat team and The Luthers, a team consisting of John Ed’s sons David, Jim and James. Both teams carded a 65.
David Luther won the prize on hole #3 with the shot closest to the pin. John Fuller clamed the prize for closest to the pin on #8. Charlie Boyer claimed the $50 prize for finding the “JEL lost ball”.
Proceeds from the event help fund the Rotary club’s scholarship program.
