Dial, Garnett Qualify For State Golf Tournament
Two Scotland County golfers extended their 2010 season on May 3rd, finishing in the top 15 at the Class 1 District 3 Tournament earning the right to compete in the Missouri Class 1 State Tournament next week.
Kasey Dial and Brandon Garnett will travel to Springfield May 17th and 18th to vie for a state title at the Rivercrest Golf Course.
Dial shot a round of 89 at the Kirksville County Club to finish in 9th place at the district tournament. Garnett carded a 97, tying for the 15th and final qualifying spot.
Marceline captured the team title with a score of 348, to edge LaPlata (370) and Canton (380). SCR-I finished sixth with a 422 team score.
Dalton Smith of LaPlata was the district medalist, shooting an 11-over-par round of 82. Teammate Jake Waddle was second with a score of 84.
The Marceline trio of Tyler Hamilton, Timothy Jordan and Kenneth Terry rounded out the top five with scores of 85, 86 and 86 respectively.
There was three-way tie for sixth place between Rockne Decoster and Garrett Serbin of Canton and Weston Smith of LaPlata. Dial finished in ninth followed by Paden John of Westran (90), Brian Huskey of Marceline (91), Ritnee Smiley of Milan (91), Joseph Weimer of Salisbury (93) and a three-way tie between Garnett, Aaron Barratt of Cairo and Derek Tribble of Putnam County.
Garnett will tee off May 17th at 9:39 a.m. on hole #10. He will be paired with Dustin Gillispie, a freshman from New Bloomfield. Dial also has a 9:39 a.m. tee time, but he will start on the front nine at hole #1. He is paired with Ethan Vaught, a senior from Crane.
