Lady Tigers Conclude Junior Varsity Hoops Season With 10-6 Record

Without a single senior in the system in 2009-10, the Scotland County girls basketball program can look forward to returning an experienced team next year. The SCR-I junior varsity program will add to those ranks after finishing up the current schedule with a 10-6 record.

SCR-I opened the year with four straight wins before the Christmas break. The Lady Tigers beat Schuyler County 41-39 in the season opener on November 30 behind 14 points from Kiley Frazier. Megan Creek and Courtney Jackson each had 10 points in the win. Creek and Frazier were a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to preserve the two-point win.

The next night SCR-I held on to beat Highland 19-17 despite only dressing five players for the contest. Creek topped the scorebook with 12 points for Scotland County.

Centerville proved no match for the Lady Tigers winning streak as SCR-I prevailed 43-25 on December 7. Frazier led the team in scoring with 12 points and Creek added 11 while Jessica Morrow pitched in nine points in her season debut.

A 15-point second quarter fueld by a pair of three pointers from Katie Howard proved be the difference in a 30-27 win over Putnam County that sent the team to 4-0. Howard finished with 11 points and Jackson had 10 points for Scotland County.

Knox County rudely welcomed the Lady Tigers back from Christmas break with a 52-17 defeat on January 5. Aimee Dale led SCR-I with eight points.

North Shelby extended the losing streak to two games with a 32-19 win over SCR-I on January 10. Howard had 11 points and Creek had eight points in the losing effort.

SCR-I righted the ship with a huge fourth quarter against Canton. The Lady Tigers poured in 17 points in the final eight minutes to win 42-24 behind 14 points from Howard, 12 from Jackson and 10 from Frazier.

The final period was not as kind in the next contest, a 38-37 loss to Schuyler County that saw the Rams end the game on a 13-2 run. Hailee Stone led SCR-I in scoring with nine points and Creek and Abbey Duley each added eight points.

The teams record went to 6-3 with a 39-34 win over Putnam County. Creek led the way with 12 points and Frazier had 11 points in the win.

SCR-I made it two in a row with a 36-26 victory over Canton. The team rallied from a 15-8 deficit at halftime. Catie Shalley had six fourth quarter points in the win. Jackson led SCR-I with eight points.

February opened with the Scotland County Tournament and a 36-25 loss to Knox County in the opener. Frazier had 10 points in the loss and Jackson added nine.

SCR-I blasted the Rams in the semi-finals to the tune of 49-18. Howard singed the nets for 19 points and Frazier added 12.

Clark County handed SCR-I a 47-20 loss as the Lady Tigers record dipped to 8-5 on the year. Creek scored 12 points to lead SCR-I.

Howard poured in a season-high 21 points as Scotland County bested the Rams 49-29. She and Creek combined for 14 points to key an 18-2 second quarter run. Creek finished with 12 points.

The team mark grew to 10-5 with a 36-31 win over Highland. Aimee Dale scored 10 points, Creek had nine and Morrow had eight points in the win.

The season concluded on February 18 with a 53-31 loss to Clark County. Frazier topped the scoring efforts with 10 points. Creek pitched in nine points and Jackson had eight.

SCR-I finished the year with a 10-6 record.
