Shelley, Dial, Named to All-Conference Teams

All star teams are not easy to put together, and the 2009-10 Tri-Rivers All-Conference honors were no exception as the TRC coaches had a difficult time deciding on the top honors.

Ultimately the votes were split on league most valuable player and coach of the year, forcing the TRC to name co-winners for both honors.

Putnam Countys Daniel Mallette and Schuyler Countys Tim Gorman shared the MVP honors. The two top players coaches also shared coach of the year honors as Putnam Countys Jamie Tipton and Schuyler Countys Kyle Windy were named co-coaches of the year.

Mallette and Gorman were unanimous first team all conference selections along with Jesse Wheeler, a senior from Schuyler County. Joining them on the first team were Knox Countys Justin Reeves, and Scotland Countys Kyle Shelley. Gorman and Reeves are just juniors, while the other three first teams will be graduating this year.

Shelley was Scotland Countys second leading scorer at 10 points a game and was tops on the squad with 7.1 rebounds per contest.

The TRC second team honorees were Justin Alderton, a junior from Clark County; Nolan Wood, a senior from Putnam County; Blake Williams, a senior from Brookfield; Tristen Lonberger, a senior from Knox County; and John Stoneburner, a sophomore from North Shelby.

Named to the TRC third team were Cooper Bankus, a sophomore from Milan; Jaron Shively, a senior from Schuyler County; Kasey Dial, a junior from Scotland County; Dakota Armstrong, a senior from Clark County; and Brody Heidenwith of Putnam County.

Dial led Scotland County with an 11 point scoring average. He sank a team-best 66 three pointers on the year, shooting 32% from behind the arc.

Putnam County took the league title with a perfect 7-0 record. State ranked Schuyler County had to settle for second at 6-1 followed by Scotland County (5-2), Knox County (4-3), Clark County (3-4), Milan (2-5), North Shelby (1-6) and Brookfield (0-7).
