Lady Tigers Make Final Trip to Brookfield Memorable with 49-38 Win
In what was likely the programís final trip to Brookfield, the Scotland County varsity girls basketball team made the long bus ride home more enjoyable by besting the Bulldogs 49-38 on February 16th.
The Lady Tigers showed no ill effects of the travel time, coming out of the gates with a solid first quarter performance offensively. Anna Duley and Cali Holt each had four points as SCR-I led 14-11 after the first period.
Kiley Frazier came off the bench to score five points and Jamie Shaw added four points in the second period as SCR-I clung to a 25-21 advantage at the intermission.
The third period was the turning point. Scotland County outscored Brookfield 17-7 thanks in large part to Shaw who scored 10 points in the key stretch.
But SCR-I left the door open for a fourth quarter rally courtesy of some struggles at the free throw line. The Lady Tigers made just three of nine free throws down the stretch. But the girls defensive efforts kept Brookfield from taking advantage of the opportunity, securing the 49-38 victory.
Scotland County improved to 13-7 on the year and 4-2 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Shaw led all scorers with 16 points. Holt finished with nine points while Ashley Tague added seven points. Brookfield was led in scoring by Abby York and Quensie Gall each with nine points.
