Tigers Come From Behind to Best Wildcats 47-39
Drew Miller fires a three pointer.
After trailing for nearly three fourths of the game Wednesday night in Memphis, Scotland County found a way to even its record this season and more importantly move to 4-1 in the Tri-Rivers Conference with a 47-39 victory over Milan on February 10th.
Kasey Dial opened the game with a jumper from the wing to put SCR-I on top 2-0. Drew Miller then hit a three pointer that made the score 5-4 early in the first quarter.
It was all Milan from that point forward in the first half. Mason Clark hit a three pointer and added a pair of field goals to push Milan out to the early lead. Harley Stone and Kyle Shelley converted in the paint for the Tigers but they still trailed 15-9 at the end of the first period.
Neither team got much going on offense in the second period. Miller had five points, including his second three pointer that came at the 4:19 mark to trim the deficit to 19-14. Shelley had the only other field goal for the Tigers, who trailed 21-16 at the intermission.
Milan opened the third period with a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 28-18 before Harely Stone ended the SCR-I scoring drought with 3:31 left in the quarter.
Shelley and Dial took over from there. Kyle converted on back-to-back possessions to trim the lead to 28-24 before Dial hit a three pointer. The junior guard then made three free throws after being fouled on a shot at the buzzer. His perfection at the line knotted the score at 30-30.
Kyle Shelley elevates over the Milan defender for two points.
Shelley put his team on top for the first time since early in the first period when he converted a three-point play with 7:42 left in the final period. Dial then drilled another three pointer and Miller connected on a baseline jumper. The quick 8-0 run forced a Milan time out with the score now 38-30 in favor of the home team.
The lead shrank to four before Stone converted an offensive rebound to make it 40-34 with 3:11 left to play.
SCR-I left the door open for a Milan rally with some struggles at the free throw line. SCR-I went 6 of 14 from the charity stripe down the stretch before Dial hit two to seal the 47-39 win.
Scotland County improved to 9-9 on the season and 4-1 in the TRC. Twelve of Dialís game-high 14 points came in the second half to fuel the rally. Shelley finished with 13 points and Miller had 11 points.
