Scotland County Stampedes Mustangs in 50-36 Tourney Win
At points Tuesday night it appeared that the Mustangs might stampede. Scotland County looked poised to blow out Marion County on numerous occasions in the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament, but ultimately had to settle for a 50-36 win after the Mustangs refused to go away quietly.
The Tigers jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the first period thanks in large part to the sharp shooting of Kasey Dial and Dakota Wells who combined for 12 points, including a trio of three pointers.
The lead grew to 30-19 at the break thanks in large part to the Tigers defensive efforts that held Marion County to just seven second quarter points.
Brandon Garnett shouldered much of the scoring load in the third period as SCR-I extended the lead to 41-28.
The Tigers made six of eight free throws down the stretch to insure Marion County could not rally en route to the 50-36 win.
Garnett finished with 14 points to lead Scotland County (5-6). Dial had 12 points and Kyle Shelley added 10 points.
