Scotland County Squashes Gophers 62-50 in Hoops Action
Scotland County returned to the win column on Monday night with a 62-50 victory at Green City.
The Gophers kept things close early despite a strong first quarter for SCR-I’s Kyle Shelley. The senior forward had six points in the opening frame to help build a two-point lead for the Tigers at 16-14.
The margin grew over the next eight minutes as the Tigers heated up from the perimeter. Kasey Dial knocked down a pair of shots from behind the arc and Brock Bondurant added a three pointer to push SCR-I ahead 33-22 at the break.
Dial helped extend the lead to 49-33 by scoring seven points in the third period. Harley Stone gave the team some balanced scoring in the paint with a pair of field goals before Drew Miller drained his second three pointer of the contest to make the lead 16 points.
Green City mounted a fourth quarter rally but Brandon Garnett put up six points late to fend off the rally en route to the 62-50 win.
Dial led Scotland County (6-8) in scoring with 16 points. Garnett and Shelley each finished with 12 points.
