Lady Tigers Jayvee Off to 4-0 Start in 2009
The Scotland County girls junior varsity basketball team is off to a 4-0 start in the 2009 season, wracking up impressive wins over Schuyler County, Highland, Centerville, and Putnam County.
SCR-I opened the year with a hard-fought 41-39 win over the Lady Rams on November 30th in Memphis. Kiley Frazier and Megan Creek combined for 10 first quarter points and Katie Howard knocked down a key three pointer in the second period to build a 23-20 lead at the break.
Frazier and Creek both were 4-4 at the free throw line in the fourth period to help preserve the win. Frazier topped the scorebook with 14 points while Creek and Courtney Jackson rounded out a balanced scoring attack with 10 points each.
The Lady Tigers improved to 2-0 with a 19-17 win over Highland December 1st in Memphis. SCR-I prevailed in the defensive struggle despite suiting up just five players for the contest. Creek led the way with 12 points and Hailie Stone finished with four points.
Scotland County got plenty of offense on December 7th as the Lady Tigers rolled over Centerville 43-25. SCR-I jumped out to an 11-2 first period lead and never looked back. Kiley Frazier poured in 12 points, all in the third quarter to lead Scotland County to victory. Creek had 11 points and Jessica Morrow added nine points while Abbey Duley pitched in six points.
Scotland County held off a late rally by Putnam County on December 11 to best the Lady Midgets 30-27 at Unionville.
Howard drilled a pair of three pointers to fuel a 15-5 run in the second period to allow SCR-I to lead 17-10 at the intermission.
Putnam County closed the game on an 11-6 run but it wasnít enough as SCR-I went to 4-0 on the year with the win.
Howard topped SCR-I in scoring with 11 points. Jackson finished with 10 points.
