Verna Murline (Meyer) Hustead, 88, of Gorin, MO, died Sunday evening, December 12, 2010, at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.
The daughter of Henry and Marie (Reed) Meyer, Murline was born on June 23, 1922. She was born and raised in Gorin, graduating with the Class of 1940. She operated the "Eureka Cafť" in Gorin for many years with her parents and sister.
Murline married Harold Hustead. She and Harold lived in Gorin, except for a few years when they lived in Chicago, IL while he was in the United States Navy.
They moved to Ft. Madison, IA when Harold was employed by Sheaffer Pen Co., and then returned to Gorin in 1948 where they operated Hustead Garage.
After Harold's death in 1975, Murline worked at DeRosear Flowers for a few years. The last few months she was a resident of the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.
Murline gave her heart to Jesus at an early age and was a faithful member of the Gorin Baptist Church. She and her good friend, Lila Mellott, were always the first to arrive when the Church doors were opened. She also enjoyed working in WMU.
She was a very loving and caring person. No matter if you had a toothache or major surgery, you probably received a card from her. She always remembered her family and friends on their birthday.
Preceding her in death were her husband; an infant son; her parents; parents-in-law; her sister, Margaret Davis; and brother-in-law, Girden Davis.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronnie Boyer of Arbela, MO; her son Allen Hustead and his partner, Vince Chris, both of Sedona, AZ; her four grandchildren, of whom she was very proud, Brad and Kristi Boyer of Moberly, MO, Beth and Rob Stellmacher of Waunakee, WI, Brian and Rhonda Boyer of Jonesboro, AR, and Kevin and Erin Boyer of Kansas City, MO. Murline also had seven great grandchildren who knew her as "Grandma Cookie" as she always happened to bake Chocolate Chip cookies when they were expected. She even became very good at making Dog Biscuits for the Grand Dogs. Great grandchildren are Brett, Lindsey, and Brandon Boyer of Moberly, MO, Abigail and Tyler Stellmacher of Waunakee, WI, and Zachary and Ellen Boyer of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Norma Hustead of Kimberling City, MO, along with several nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
