Vaughn Gail Ayer, 73 of rural Downing, Missouri passed away at his home unexpectedly on Saturday, December 11, 2010.

The son of Anthony Brighton and Clarice Ethel (Buford) Ayer, Vaughn was born on September 26, 1937 in rural Downing, Missouri. A graduate of the Downing High School class of l955, Vaughn was the valedictorian of his class. Following graduation, he served twenty-one years in the United States Army. Following his retirement from the service, he returned to Downing, Missouri where he presently resided and was a livestock farmer.

Vaughn is survived by two brothers, Ronald Ayer and wife, Janet of LaHarpe, Illinois and Anthony Don Ayer of Bettendorf, Iowa; 1 sister, Colleen Branson of Holts Summit, Missouri; 1 nephew, Daniel Ayer and wife, Lisa of LaHarpe, Illinois; 1 niece, Deborah Winburn and husband, Richard of Stilwell, Kansas; great nieces and nephews, Tyler, Nathaniel and Brandon Ayer, Sarah, Andrew and Christopher Winburn; cousins and many good friends and neighbors.

Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother in law, Harry Branson and numerous aunts and uncles.

To honor Vaughn's wishes, the body has been cremated and a memorial service and interment will be at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Fabius Cemetery or to the Schuyler County Nutrition Site. These may be mailed to the Norman Funeral Home, 402 W.
