Glen Garrett, 70, of Moberly, MO, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born the son of Herbert Glen and Wilma (Dalton) Garrett on June 22, 1940 in Scotland County, Missouri. Glen graduated from Memphis High School in 1958.
Glen married the former Barbara Aldridge on December 9, 1962 in Memphis. She survives.
To this union three children were born: Suzy, Jeff, and Jenny.
He worked for private contractors in road construction for over 40 years, operating a blade. The Garretts moved to Moberly in the fall 1983, where they owned a small acreage outside of town. They enjoyed raising animals on their land.
Glen spent time gardening, playing pinochle and scrabble. He appreciated all types of music, especially country. He also enjoyed watching the music shows on RFDTV.
Most of all, Glen enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In July 2002, after two years of dialysis, Glen received a kidney transplant which was a precious gift that he was grateful for every day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Garrett.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; children, Suzy Otto of Paris, MO, Jeff and wife Mina Garrett of Kansas City, MO, and Jenny and husband Shawn Shipley of Salem, MO; grandchildren Katie Otto, Monica Garrett, Morgan Garrett, Wyatt Garrett, Elizabeth Shipley, Sara Shipley, Daniel Shipley, and Kimberly Shipley; mother, Wilma Garrett of Downing; brothers, Loyd and wife Maxine Garrett of Camdenton and Lyle and wife Lana Garrett of Harrisburg, MO; sisters, Carol Seamster of Downing and Nancy and husband Dwain Bishop of Memphis; sister-in-law, Linda Aldridge of Memphis; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Organ Donation, Moberly Dialysis Center or the Kidney Foundation and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis MO 63555.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Campground Cemetery south of Downing, MO. The service was officiated by Junior Arnold. Mike McGoldrick, Jim Baxter, Ron Brown, Roger Kaldenberg, Phil Cone and Michael Moore served as pallbearers.
