WILLIAM (BILL) CLIFFORD WOOD
(12/27/1950 - 10/12/2010)
William (Bill) Clifford Wood, 59, of Grandview, MO, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at his home. Loving son of Clifford W. Wood and Harriet L. Baker Poole, he was born on December 27, 1950 in Keokuk, IA. He attended Memphis Schools and reveled in his time on the basketball court.
He married Johnita Bue on May 29, 1971. To this union one daughter was born, Cherie Ann. On June 18, 1977 he married Lora Hobart. On June 24, 2007 he married his loving companion and best friend of 7 years, Suzanne Cowell. In combination, he added 6 children very dear to his heart: Timm Hobart Centerville IA, Christopher Hobart (Debbie) Kirksville MO, Jeremy Hobart (Heather) Kansas City Mo., Cari Eldridge (Joshua) Grandview, MO, Courtney Cowell (Oliver Jacobs) Kansas City, MO and Justin Cowell (Crystal) Memphis MO; and one nephew, dear to his heart, Shannon R Wood.
Bill was an Account Manager for Service Master Corporation serving in several different hospitals and schools and he earned several awards. He retired from that line of work and opened his own auto mechanic shop, WCW Works.
He enjoyed his rock and roll music, camping in his RV, and drag racing. Bill loved to hunt with his best friend, Gary Fry. He absolutely loved boating and pulling the kids on tubes or skis. He enjoyed the water with his family and friends. Just last summer, he learned how to fish for crappie. When his illness became more acute, unfortunately he was limited on getting out on the water, but was thrilled with pulling the grandsons and their friends on the tube one more time. He was one of the most giving and loving persons to his loved ones. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis and later moved his membership to the Presbyterian Church in Kirksville.
He was preceded in death by his father Clifford W. Wood, maternal grandparents Ira and Zelpha Baker, paternal grandparents Arthur and Pearl Wood, aunt Lillian Baker, uncle Harley Baker and stepfather Harry Poole.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne Wood of the home, daughter Cherie Herrmann of St. Louis, MO, mother Harriet Poole of Memphis, MO, two sisters Karen Fagg (David) Muskogee OK, Sharron Shaw (Rodney) Mount Hope, KS and one brother Edward Wood (Kelly) Chatham IL. He is also survived by his children dear to his heart, 24 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
