Bertha M. Ross, 88, of Rockford, Illinois passed away September 1, 2010 at Provena St. Anne Center. She was born January 10, 1922 in Downing, MO the daughter of Elmer and Ollie (McWilliam) Ross.

Bertha received her teaching degree from Northeast Missouri State Teacherís College and her Masterís Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She was a classroom and physical education teacher in elementary schools until her retirement in 1979. She taught fourth grade in Memphis in 1943, but was transferred to the high school in 1944 when one of the teachers left for the war. She also taught in California and Iowa before relocating to Rockford in 1952 where she served as a Consultant for Elementary Physical Education in the Rockford School System. Bertha enjoyed watercolor painting and was happiest around family, friends and nature.

Survivors include two nieces, Renee (Don) Vetter of Ballwin, MO, and Robin First of St. Charles, MO; grand niece, Hannah Marie Vetter; and grand nephew, Derek First. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Ross and her close friend and housemate, Jessie Marie Lucas. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services in Rockford.
