April 8, 2010

(10/1/1942 Ė 4/1/2010)

Mary Frances Orton, 67, of Memphis, MO, departed this life Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the home of her son.

She was born October 1, 1942, in Kirksville, MO, the second child of Maxine and William Brian Ransford.

She graduated from Memphis High School. On June 11, 1960, she was united in marriage to Fred Roy Orton. They were the parents of two sons, Bryan Keith and Jeffrey Allen.

Mary and Fred resided, worked, and were active in the Memphis community until 1988, when they relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Mary enjoyed her management position at the WestwardHo Casino for over twenty years until they moved back to Memphis in August 2006. Sadly, Fred passed away on March 17, 2007, shortly after their return.

She enjoyed and had fun with many crafting hobbies, such as collecting porcelain dolls and making quilts for her family. She loved her miniature dachshund pets.

Mary was also a devoted NBA fan, following the legendary Michael Jordan and collecting his Airness memorabilia. Mary lived life by the dream that it is.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her brother, Arthur Leon; her half-sister, Viola March; and her in-laws, Maxine and Eugene Orton.

Those left to honor her memory are her two sons: Bryan Keith Orton and wife Michelle of Las Vegas, NV, and Jeffrey Allen Orton of Memphis, MO; ten grandchildren, Joseph Cole and wife Sommer of the US Air Force stationed in England, Andrew, Sarah, and Christopher of Las Vegas, NV, Taylor, Zachary, Preston, Kaitlin, Hannah, and Jordan of Memphis; two great-grandchildren, Mya and Josie of England; two brothers, Harry Ransford and wife Mary of Memphis, MO, and Frank Ransford of Burlington, IA; one sister, Terri Ann and husband Mark Monroe of Memphis; one aunt, Martha Bradley of Bible Grove, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Mary will be sadly missed by her loving family, other dear relatives, and many kind and loving friends.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 6 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with Pastor Jack Sumption officiating. Special music was provided by Danielle Bair, vocalist.

Memorials were suggested to the family and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Condolences may be sent to the Orton family via email at gerths@gerths.com.

Arrangements were under the direction of Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
