COLONEL LOWELL DEAN KETCHUM
(8/11/1933 - 3/22/2010)
Colonel Lowell Dean Ketchum, 76, of Lyons, CO went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2010 peacefully at his home in the mountains that he loved following a brief battle with Melanoma cancer.
The son of Jesse M. and Anna Maude (Tadlock) Ketchum he was born August 11, 1933 in Memphis, MO.
He graduated from Elm Grove country school and then the Memphis High School in 1950. He furthered his education at the University of Missouri as a member of the R.O.T.C., and later the Farm House Fraternity along with the War College at Montgomery, AL.
On February 13, 1955 he married Ruth A. McCubbin in Columbia, MO. To this union three children were born, Randall D., Steven R. and Angela.
Dean was a devout Christian and provided for his family. He was a deacon in the Foothills Baptist Church and served his country for over thirty years retiring a full Colonel in the U.S Air Force serving once as Commander of Dyess Air Force Base in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Maude Ketchum in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Ketchum of Lyons, CO; two sons, Randall D. (Amy) of Columbus, GA and Steven R. (Mardi) of Basalt, CO; one daughter, Angela Rittenhouse (Tom) of Basalt, CO; one brother Jesse L. Ketchum (Juanita) of Kansas City; a sister, Anna Jean Mathes (Wayne) of Bolivar, MO; nine grandchildren, Bo, Tommy, Robbie, Jessica, Trevor, Brandon, C.J., Corey and Dre; one great-grandson, Trey; his father, Jessie McCain “Mack” Ketchum (La Vaughn) of Memphis, MO; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials are suggested to The Gideons International for the purchase of bibles and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555 or at the church.
Memorial Services will be held this Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Memphis. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dan Hite. The Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis will be providing full military rites at the church at the conclusion of the service.
Music will be provided by Joe Rhoads singing “Jesus Jesus There is Just Something About That Name” and Schelle Cooley singing “Through it All and Coming Home”.
Local Arrangements are under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
