GLEN LEON LONIS

Glen Leon Lonis, 98 of Glenwood, Missouri passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
The son of Leonard Stoval and Minnie (Stevens) Lonis, he was born on August 14, 1911 in Glenwood, Missouri. He grew up in the Glenwood, Missouri area and graduated from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri in 1931.
On October 22, 1938, he was united in marriage to Juanita Ruth Landtiser in Worthington, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born, Glenita Ann and Carol Jo.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Lonis of Glenwood, Missouri; two daughters, Glenita Ann Lonis of Overland Park, Kansas and Carol Jo Neagle of Glenwood, Missouri; three grandchildren, Douglas Leon Briedwell and wife, Judy of Vancouver, Washington, Lanita Lynn Moss and husband, Colby of Spring Hill, Kansas and C. Patrick Neagle of Springfield, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Elliott and Hunter Moss of Spring Hill, Kansas; many nieces and nephews to the 5th generation; and a host of many friends and neighbors including Anna and Everett Gillispie.
Preceding Glen in death include his parents; step mother, Margaret Shumate Lonis; one son-in-law, James Neagle; grandson-in-law, Thomas Hausman; four brothers, William Lonis, Eugene Lonis, Walter Lonis and Everett Lonis; three sisters, Elsie Bickle, Leona Walker and Grace Lonis; one nephew, Leonard Leon Lonis and one niece, Hildred Lonis Toney.
Glen was employed by K. I. Miller Hatcheries for several years. He then worked for Reed Construction in Kirksville, Missouri as a carpenter and also did carpenter jobs locally. He retired from construction in 1967. Glen graduated from Omaha School of Taxidermy in 1933 and did much of this work after retiring from construction. Glen was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to garden and was often asked for advice. Glen was a 4-H Leader in Wood Working, was a Sunday School Superintendent at one time and a member of the Friendship Community Church of Lancaster, Missouri. He had a wealth of knowledge about nature and enjoyed God’s creation.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Jon Mark Trammel, pastor of the Friendship Community Church officiating. Soloist, Sheryl Fabyanic and pianist, Donna Welte, provided music. Special selections were “Amazing Grace”, “It Is Well With My Soul” and “Because He Lives”.
Pallbearers were Brian Taylor, Richard Taylor, Larry Lonis, Douglas Briedwell, Colby Moss and Vic Farrell. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Kimbrell, John West, David Hartsock, Ray Watson, Brian Atkinson and Wayne Anderson.
Memorials have been established for Glenwood Community Hall. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, northwest of Glenwood, Missouri.
