LAURA E. MIDDLETON
(12/28/1924 1/27/2010)

Laura Elizabeth Middleton of Lancaster but most recently of Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri died Wednesday, January 27, 2010. She was born December 28, 1924 in Farmerville, Louisiana to Perry L. and Eleanor (Compton) Williams.

Laura graduated from the Farmerville, Louisiana High School and went on to attend the St. Francis School of Nursing in Monroe, Louisiana studying to be a Registered Nurse. She did not complete her degree but instead came to Lancaster, Missouri to marry Robert E. Middleton on December 31, 1945. They were married nearly 57 years before his death on November 9, 2002.

Laura was a farmer, milking dairy cows for many years, raising long horn cattle and dogs. Raising dogs was probably her greatest passion other than her family. She loved all breeds but most especially her English Bulldogs. She also loved to sew, knit, crochet and do counted cross-stitch. She liked cooking and trying new recipes on her family. Most of all she loved the outdoors and would rather be gardening, fishing or mowing grass than spending time indoors. She was a joy to be around and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by those that loved her.

Laura is survived by her three children, a daughter, Anne Silvey of Lancaster, Missouri, a son, Robert Williams (Bill) Middleton and wife, Barb of Kirksville, Missouri and a daughter, Patricia (Patti) Roberts and husband, Kim of Kirksville, Missouri; six grandchildren including Garth Silvey and wife, Sophia Pierroutsakos of St. Louis, Missouri, Roth Silvey of Lancaster, Missouri, Elizabeth Heldenbrand and husband, Matt of Ottumwa, Iowa, Courtney Roberts of St. Louis, Missouri, Seth Roberts of Columbia, Missouri and Whitney Middleton of Columbia, Missouri. She is also survived by one step granddaughter, Amanda Mayne and husband, Denny of Greenfield, Missouri. Laura is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Leonora Silvey and Claire, Emma, Andrew and Ryan Heldenbrand and five step great-grandchildren, Lacey, Maddison, Denny, Jocey and Derek Mayne.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Arlette Speir and Christelle Williams (in infancy); one brother, Charles Williams and one son-in-law, Charles Silvey.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Norman Funeral Chapel in Lancaster, Missouri with Donald Bramschreiber officiating. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment was at the Maple Hills Mausoleum in Kirksville, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, 22376 State Highway 6, Kirksville, Missouri. Services are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
