Zella Verlee Schupbach, 94, of Downing, Missouri passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The daughter of William (Bill) G. and Fannie Otis (Blessing) Adams, she was born on July 16, 1915 in Schuyler County, Missouri. Following graduation from the Downing High School in Downing, Missouri, Verlee was united in marriage to Russell B. Schupbach on August 1, 1936 in Lancaster, Missouri by Reverend Robert Seath and this marriage was blessed with two children, Cathy and Robert.

Survivors include her children, Cathy Major and husband, Gary of Knoxville, Iowa and Robert Schupbach of Lafayette, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Melissa McLeod, Matthew McLeod, Mark McLeod and Mikayla Rose Schupbach; four great-grandchildren, Stephen, Darren, Catelynn and James Russell; sister-in-law, Evafae Jeffries of Downing, Missouri; niece, Marylu Bennett and husband, Irvin of Downing, Missouri; nephew, Royce Jeffries and wife Sarah of Downing, Missouri; several cousins, other family members and special friends and neighbors.

Verlee is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell B. Schupbach on October 27, 1991; and her parents-in-law, Jim and Mabel (Franks) Schupbach.

Verlee was a very devoted member of the Downing Christian Church of Downing, Missouri where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years; a member of the Ladies Aide and CWA.

Verlee and Russell B. farmed in the Downing area their entire married life.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music was provided by Betty Anderson, organist, Betty Duncan, pianist and Beth Gravett, soloist. Special musical selections were “The Lord’s Prayer”, “Sheltered In The Arms of God”, “His Hand In Mine”, “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Pallbearers were Steve Blessing, Jerry Duncan, Robert Jackson, Harold Winn, Henry Blessing II, and Garry Poe. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Downing Christian Church Board. Memorials have been established for the Shiloh Christian Children’s Home. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
