JOHN P. SHIBLEY
(9/21/1925 - 12/28/2009)
Our Beloved John P. Shibley, died on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport, IL. He was born in rural Gorin, Missouri to John E. and Lorena (Melany) Shibley on September 21, 1925.
He graduated from Gorin High School. He served in WWII in the infantry as a P.F.C. Rifleman in Germany and France where he was wounded in November 1945. John was awarded several medals for his honorable service to our country.
On February 19, 1949, he and Helen McLeland Jeffries were married. They moved to and farmed in Northwest Lena. They moved to Freeport, and after 23 years at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, he retired in 1989.
He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Freeport.
John was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great- grandfather.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 485, Disabled Veterans, and the 12th Armored Hellcats.
John was preceded in death by his much loved wife Helen; his mother and father, Lorena and John Shibley, sister; Betty, and brother George.
He is survived by his daughter Terry and son-in-law; Ron Richman of Rockford; grandchildren, Dawn Watson, Jeff (Dawn) Richman, Michael Richman, Christine (Daniel) Dufoe, Amanda Nason and Ciarra (Frank) Kozak. He will be a loved Grandpa, never forgotten to 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Sue (Paul) Hoskinson of Freeport.

Private services will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Schwarz Funeral Home in Freeport, IL.
