Community Players to Perform Christmas Musical this Weekend
Performances of the Memphis Community Players and Evening on Broadway Troupe Christmas show Watt Family Christmas? will be Friday and Saturday, December 10-11, at 7:30 at the Memphis Theatre.
Watt Family Christmas? by Cheryl Taylor is a play about the Watt Family who have come from their simple home to visit the shopping mall. "In other words, the hillbillies go to the city!" The Watt Family members are fascinated by what they see during the mall's "Christmas Celebration". They see strange sites such as moving stairways and security guards trying to be incognito. They see a fat man in a red suit, all the "purdy" decorations, and two mothers fighting over a toy. At the end of the play the Watt Family explains the true meaning of Christmas to the shoppers and mall employees.
Members of the "Watt Family" include Tom and Teresa Cotton, Susannah DeMarce, Abigayle Feeney, Micah Cooley, Slade McAfee, Kendra Middleton, Ty Mohr, Abigail Quillen, Cole and Lindsay Tippett, Frank and Brooke Wineinger, and Jon Wullbrandt.
Mall security guards are Harlo Donelson, Jeff Dyer, and Joe Fulk. Mall shoppers are Schelle and Elijah Cooley, Lynnette Dyer, and Hannah and Katie Feeney. Other shoppers and singers include Lois Bertram, Joan Hinds, Brent Karhoff, Anna Lynn Kirkpatrick, Jerri Mohr, JoAnn Peters, and Jan Slayton.
Sheila Berkowitz is directing the performance and Lori Fulk is directing music. Ann Luther will accompany the many Christmas musical selections to be performed by the ensemble and soloists. Michael Fulk will be performing an instrumental duet with Luther on Saturday evening.
Other members of the production staff are Dallace and Bonnie Schumacher, Allen Shelley, and Kim Smith.
Tickets for the performance are $8.00. The Box Office will open at 6:30 and seating will begin at 6:45.
