Chamber to Kickoff Christmas Season With Lighting of the Square

Deer season concluded on Tuesday but Memphis Bucks are still a hot topic. While the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce's special commerce may not have antlers, they still are a welcome present under the Christmas tree, offering a way for gift givers to offer a present that is redeemable at any MACC member merchant.

The Chamber will kick off the Christmas season with the traditional lighting of the Memphis City Square on Friday, November 26th. MACC members hope to cap off a busy day of holiday shopping in town with the ceremony, set to start at 5:00 p.m.

Guests will not only be present for the first lighting of the Christmas decorations, but they will also have a chance to take home Memphis Bucks. The Chamber is sponsoring a drawing for one $50 prize, five $20 prizes and 10 $10 winners. You must be present to win. To be eligible, participants simply need to fill out an entry form at any MACC member. Sixteen lucky winners will be drawn on Friday night.

The lighting show will also serve as the start of the 2010 decorating contest. The Chamber will give away $80 in Memphis Bucks to the top decorated residential site with $60 for second place and $40 for third place. A commercial category is also available. Sign up is at the Memphis Democrat or call 660-465-7016 to enter homes or businesses deserving of recognition for their Christmas spirit.

Memphis Bucks may be purchased at Exchange Bank of Northeast Missouri, Community Bank of Memphis, U.S. Bank or at Memphis Auto Parts. They are available in $10 increments and are good for six months following the purchase date.
