Dirt Bike Crash Claims Life of Rutledge Boy
A Rutledge boy was killed and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident in Knox County on October 27th. The crash occurred at 7:15 p.m. on Route M, two miles south of Rutledge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Larry D. Hoover, 9, was killed when the mini dirt bike he was a passenger on was struck by a northbound 1997 Dodge pickup driven by 18-year-old Joseph B. Martin of Rutledge.
Lavon D. Weiler, 12, of Rutledge, was driving the mini bike. He suffered serious injuries and was flown from the scene to University Hospital in Columbia.
Hoover was pronounced deceased at 7:50 p.m. by Knox County Coroner Jeff Doss. This was the 21st fatality in 2010 in Troop B, which consists of the 16 northeast Missouri counties covered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Martin was not injured in the accident.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County and Scotland County sheriff's offices as well as the Rutledge Fire and Rescue and the Scotland County and Knox County ambulance services.
