Chip sealing is a preventative maintenance which consists of placing a thin overlay of chips and oil on the roadway to seal and protect the pavement and extend the pavement life. The roadway can be driven on soon after applied, however motorists are encouraged to drive slowly on the newly sealed road or use alternate routes if possible. Within a few weeks, MoDOT will stripe the road.
All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map on the day it begins. Those traveling and the commuting public are encouraged to check the online map at www.modot.org daily for new work zones. Drivers are also invited to rate MoDOT work zones online at modot.org. MoDOT also offers e-update messages sent directly to your email when roadwork is scheduled.
