Hospital Acquires Ground For New Landing Site
The City of Memphis approved the sale of approximately one acre of land adjacent to Scotland County Hospital to open the way for the construction of a new landing pad for helicopter ambulances serving the Memphis facility.
The city council voted 4-0 to approve the sale of the northern portion of the lot that currently houses the Memphis Recreation Center. The senior center pool hall as it is best known as, will be unaffected by the sale, as the ground in question lies between it and the hospital.
The hospital has agreed to pay $1,000 for the ground.
Maintenance director Jamie Kice indicated to the council that the property will ultimately be transformed into a dedicated helipad for the hospital. SCH currently has to utilize its south parking lot as a landing area for air ambulances, requiring vehicles to be moved and creating other underlying issues for the facility.
An official closing for the transaction has been scheduled for July 15th.
