Junior Livestock Sale Will Cap Off 2010 Fair for Exhibitors
Saturday serves as the grand finale for the 2010 Scotland County Fair and one of the biggest events of the day happens early. The Junior Livestock Sale will get underway at 9:00 a.m. on June 26th in the cattle show barn.
The sale offers 4-H and FFA exhibitors at the fair an opportunity to ďcash inĒ for their hard work. Art hall projects, wool, sheep, goats, cattle, and swine are auctioned off to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to the project owners.
Area merchants and fair boosters gather together every year for the sale to help support the kidsí efforts. Floor prices are established on the livestock, with buyers having the opportunity to pay the full price and keep the animal, or simply pay the premium price (sale price minus the floor price) and turn the animal over to the market for resale at a later date.
The sale order this year will be sheep and wool followed by art hall projects, swine and finally beef.
Anyone interested in supporting the exhibitors but unable to attend or are interested in splitting a purchase with other prospective buyers, are encouraged to contact one of the fair superintendents.
ďIf you have been to the sale and heard two or three different buyersí names announced for the same animal, that is what happened,Ē said Karen Lloyd-Minear, 4-H Youth Development Specialist.
The volunteer superintendents are Randy Ward, Mark Mallett, Brian Krause and Wayne Bulen in the cattle barn; Deny and Danette Clatt, Sarah Childress, James Dalton and Stacy Westhoff for sheep, goats and wool; Bruce Childress, Chris Montgomery, Lila Spray and Kristy Eggleston-Wood for swine; and Nancy McClamroch or Debbie Payne for art hall projects.
Champions from each show will lead off their respective sales, followed by reserve champions. Buyers interested in sending their purchase to the locker need to make arrangements for transportation and have an appointment at the locker for processing.
