Route D to Close for Bridge Replacement
HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, beginning Monday, June 21, Route D in Scotland County will be closed to traffic for bridge deck replacement at the North Fork of the Middle Fabius River Bridge southwest of Memphis.
While crews are working, the bridge will be closed for approximately three months from Route A in Schuyler County to Route 15 in Scotland County. Please seek alternate routes during this time. Harry H. Houf and Sons Construction of Mexico, Missouri was the successful bidder on this bridge repair under MoDOTís innovative Safe and Sound Bridge Program.
As part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, more than 200 bridges are scheduled for work this year, and in almost all cases, the bridges will be closed during construction to lower the cost and allow for speedy completion. Replacing the bridges in their current locations greatly reduces the need for additional right of way and costly roadway work, enabling more bridges to be improved within the projectís $700 million budget. In all, Safe & Sound will improve or replace 802 of the stateís poorest bridges.
Most of the bridges being constructed in 2010 - about 150 - will be complete replacements as part of MoDOTís design-build contract with KTU Constructors. KTU has set up regional offices in Leeís Summit, Bethany, Chillicothe, Sedalia and Benton to coordinate this yearís work that will take place primarily in northwest and west central Missouri, the Kansas City area and the Bootheel. KTUís projects, by contract, are to last an average of 45 days - or half as long as the typical bridge replacement.
Scotland County has four bridges on the Safe & Sound program. The bridge on Route H at South Wyaconda River has already been completed. The Route D bridge at the N. Fork Middle Fabius River will get underway this week. Bridge projects on Route Z at Little Fox River and the abandoned railroad crossing on Business Highway 136 will be completed in 2011.
