Scotland County Hospital to Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Scotland County Memorial Hospital opened its doors at 8 a.m. on July 20, 1970. At that time it had the capacity of 30 beds. A lot has changed in the last 40 years at your local hospital and there is even more positive change for the future. The public is invited to Scotland County Hospital (SCH) on Saturday, May 8th to celebrate the past, present and future of your local hospital.

Activities begin at 8 a.m. with the Step 4 Pep walking race. Registration for the race is between 7 7:45 a.m. The Step 4 Pep walkers will be traveling west on Sigler Street, south on Market Street, west on Madison Street and north on Main Street. The Step 4 Pep will be canceled in case of rain.

Also at 8 a.m., hospital staff will be flipping pancakes and serving the public breakfast at the free pancake breakfast until 10 a.m. From 11 a.m. 1 p.m. hospital staff will be serving hot dogs, soda and cake. Throughout the event, the hospital departments will have exhibits on display and health screenings. There will be architect renderings of the expansion project on display. All of these activities will occur rain or shine, under the big white tent on the north side of the Hospital.

Hospital employees will continue celebrating throughout the following weeks as they observe National Hospital week from May 9 15 and National Nurses Week from May 6 12.

Your local hospital employees believe that your hospital is more than a place where people go to heal; it is a part of the community that fosters health and represents hope. From providing treatment and comfort to the sick, to welcoming new life into the world, your local hospital is central to a healthy and optimistic community.

National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of people, Marcia Dial, CEO, said. Were extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and the communities we serve.
