Police Plan More Patrol Presence for Prom

Prom is a time of celebration for students. Sometimes the excitement from the big show can boil over to the streets. The schedule for the special day offers several breaks between the various events such as the march, the meal, the dance and the school sponsored after prom party.

Students often take advantage of these brief intermissions to cruise the town.

The Memphis Police Department is offering advanced notice that extra enforcement will be working Saturday night during the festivities.

Most importantly we just want to make sure no one gets hurt, said City Marshall Bill Holland. No one wants to spoil the fun of prom night with a ticket, not to mention the insurance repercussions that go along with it just for getting caught up in the heat of the moment and doing something silly.

Holland also pointed out that often many prom attendees are driving borrowed vehicles, which should offer even more incentive to be safe and get that car or truck back to its owner without a scratch.
