Cancer Fund to Host 6th Annual Benefit
Neighbors helping neighbors... That is the motto for the Scotland County Cancer Society. The local charity group will host a benefit ham and bean supper and auction on Saturday night in hopes of doing just that.
Neighbors will have the opportunity to help neighbors by attending the free-will offering supper and sticking around to bid on a number of donated items that will include Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets, gift certificates from area merchants and much more. The supper will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6th at the Memphis V.F.W.
Since its inception in 2004 the Scotland County Cancer Fund has worked to raise money to benefit local families battling the disease. In its first year, the cancer fund offered $50 to victims and their families to help offset some of the costs of seeking treatment. The local charity is now able to offer $750 per person, per year to assist with unexpected expenses that occur when undergoing cancer treatments such as fuel, lodging and other travel costs incurred when attending doctor visits.
The 2009 benefit raised more than $8,000 for the cancer fund. The charity also benefits from being named as a destination for memorial donations.
